Wednesday 3rd June Appologies for not being able to get this update uploaded sooner. We have been trying for a few days now and the internet access hasn't been good enough to upload our images! We are now in Germany, in Hamburg today and heading for Berlin tomorrow... Saturday 30th May We are currently making our descent from the north, after visiting Finland, Sweden and Norway. The weather has had it's ups and downs, lefts and rights. We have been through rain, snow and scorching sunshine. We have driven miles and miles through stunning scenery, visited Santa Claus in the Arctic circle, petted huskies and reindeer, had a traditional Finnish sauna, rowed boats in the midnight sun, made a snowman at the top of a mountain, drank gin in a fish museum with a couple from the Midlands, had Norwegian fish and chips from the market in Bergen (although Simon was most disappionted that they didn't have mushy peas), been canoeing on the Norwegian Fjords and admired the nude statues around Oslo. Phew! Today we are uploading some pictures from Finland, Sweden and the top of Norway. The fjords and southern Norway are to follow. Sorry we haven't updated in a while but the internet in Norway has been a bit limited or super expensive! Enjoy the pics... |

Mmmmmm curry night!
Becca cooking up a storm.
With some bbq chicken... Tasty!
Lakari, Finland. Where the water looks like a mirror.
We decided to take a boat out onto the lake...
It was quite late and a little cold...
11.25pm to be precise.
The next morning we had beautiful sunshine.
Room with a view!
That's our boat!
The obligatory dock shot.
Jakobstad, Finland was very pretty but very quiet.
Church in the centre of Jakobstad.
Moving home! These people were actually steering there home, down the river, from the top of their house.
A beautiful sunset in Finland.
We had some helpers at the next campsite. They weren't very helpful though!
Another beautiful sunset in Finland.
It wasn't on our original route but we did decide to head up to the Arctic Circle... Not quite that far though!
No snowmobiles at this time of year.
We couldn't go to Lapland and not photograph Huskies!...
Or Reindeer!
Becca couldn't resist a little stroke.
Hello!
Awwwwwwwwwwwww!
Ummmm what does Simon fancy?
Ummmm what does Becca fancy?
REINDEER!!! (Although it did feel a little wrong after petting them a few hours before.)
So good!
A night time stroll on the hills over Lapland.
Checking Santa's 'Nice-o-Meter' before we meet the man himself.
Yes, I know we're children but it had to be done!
The Arctic Circle!
Santa Stand-in!
My chair!
Rovaniemi, Lapland.
More Huskies...
Yes, even more...
Uh uh! / Uh uh uh!*
Yet more petting!
Arkitum, Rovaniemi.
Brrrrrrr... Simon hugging the tripod for warmth on our first night in Sweden - we were camping next to snow.
Jokkmokk, Sweden. Where the water looks like a mirror too.
Swamp dogs!
I see dead people!
The mist coming to get us.
Ok, so we'll never make it as wildlife photographers!
Second attempt wasn't any better, but reindeer are fast.
Third time wasn't lucky either.
Not reindeer from the previous picture but beef instead.
Ya ya ya rather dishy one might say!
Look! Skiing without snow!
For sale: Cosy, rustic residence with a lovely view. Ample parking.
For sale: Cosy, rustic residence. No parking but comes with free boots.
Norway... we think!
Oh yes! Hasta la vista flies!
First fjord ferry (try saying that after a few drinks), the first of many.
Another ferry... this one came with a free hair dryer.
Poser!
Yet another beautiful sunset over a fjord.
I caught one... this big!
Looking forward to his fish supper after a hard days fishing.
Come on, take the damn picture already... it's heavy!
Mmmmmmm fish!
Fish museum, where we camped for a night. It was one of the best campsites we've visited.
And why not finish with another beautiful sunset. |

* depending on which Elvis impersonation you do! Part one of our adventure is shortly coming to a close, and it doesn't feel like we have been away for two and a half months now. It is exciting to think that this time next month we will be in Africa! |
